The problem that you will have is battery shelf life. As stated previously, those batteries won't hold a charge forever. We have a Harbor Freight 19.2 volt gun that we use to switch weights when tractor pulling. One battery will do at least 72 nuts loose and 72 nuts tight again before it runs out of juice. These are 5/8 bolts and it makes them plenty tight, usually over 100 ft/lbs.

We have used that gun on over 16 occasions this summer and it has held up well so far. You sure can't beat it for the price.

I use battery impacts in my shop everyday .They are awsome.Hardley touch air impacts anymore except for really rusted or heavy duty work . I have 3 snap on impacts 14.4 volt and 18 volt 1/2 inch drive ,and a 3/8ths drive. Also have a Mac 3/8ths drive, and one 19.9 volt 1/2 inch from harbor freight . It is the least expensive by far $120.00 with extra battery. The 1/2 inch impacts will all remove and install lug nuts from 3-4 car depending how hard they were to get off. Installing lugs is no problem , I always recheck lugs with a torque wrench and find most to be in 100-120 range . Most factory lug specs run 85-105 . With an extra battery these are soem of the most used tools in my shop these days . Full line auto /truck repair shop . The Snap On impacts run close to $400 but worth every penny, But I use the cheaper one plenty too . It get throwed in trunk on most trips or hauled up to cabin for use there .

I dont think that is a good idea. The batteries self discharge kinda quick. When you need it, it'll be dead. Anyway, right out of the charger I wonder if it could break 5 or 6 lugs torqued to 75 or 80lbs anyway. Not to mention putting new ones on with enough torque.

Here's a different thought. Rather than the cordless one, why not buy a corded (AC powered) one and a dc-ac inverter. Inverters are really getting cheap these days, and they're handy for lots of things.

I had one on a welding truck at work that I ran off the welder, and it was so handy I did the same thing for my pickup. I have a 1000 watt inverter and it runs it no sweat.
