On a 16" solid disk butterfly water valve what is the percent of flow rate compared to the percent that the valve is open. I know flow is not linear to the percent the valve is open but what is the ratio? In other words what percent of total flow can you expect from a valve that is 10% open? 20% open? 30% open etc.

Hi Terry,

Here's a discussion of butterfly valve Cv (for water) that provides the answer to your question. From the Cv chart for 2-way valves, you can easily calculate the flow as percentages of the full open rate at different valve disc positions. The numbers in the chart are gpm for a 1 psi pressure drop across the valve, which is the definition of Cv. Other flows at different pressure drops can be calculated using the equation shown for Cv. Google is your friend :o).
