Try'n to figure out how many bushels of shelled corn I can fit into a 55 gallon drum, who's good with math?

IT TAKES ABOUT 300 LBS OF CORN TO FILL A 55 GAL DRUM (A BARREL IS ALOT LESS THAN A DRUM) IF YOU ARE MAKING A DEER FEEDER. WHEN YOU ADD YOUR FUNNEL IN THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL YOU WILL REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF CORN TO AROUNR 250 LBS. HOPE THIS ANSWERES YOUR QUESTION.

Volume (in cubic feet) times .8 equals one bushel. A gallon is about 235 cubic inches? Plus the others already got you in the neighborhood.

.803564 bu. per cubic ft.
55 divide by 7.4805195 = 7.3524305 cubic ft.
7.3524305 x .803564 = 5.9081484 bu. per barrel

Rod, how do you know about cranberries?

By the way, 1 bbl cranberries is always 100 lbs, little to do with volume. We bulk load 40 foot containers, they will hold anywhere from 400 -650+ bbls fruit full. Thats a lot of weight and we need to be carefull even with a tridom underneith. There are lots of variables which can cause this discrepancy in weight - variety, pollination, growing conditions etc.

1 bushel = 32 quarts
1 gal = 4 quarts -> 55 gal = 220 quarts
220 quarts/(32 qts/bu) = 6.785 bushels

As a general rule, corn in the 12% H2O range will run approx. 56 pounds to the bushel. I have the equasions at work somewhere to calculate pounds per cubic foot for corn. The standard for corn is pounds per bushel weight though.

A bushel of corn for marketing purposes is defined as a certain weight at a certain moisture content. By volume, a bushel is defined as 8 gallons.

It really depends on how many times you run it through the still. The higher the proof less volume
