I am haveing a problem with my srm 2100 Echo. Installing the metal blade with the correct parts when the nut is tightened down the innter cup "the one that slides over the spline" is pressed agains't the gear houseing and and prevents the blade/shaft from turning.... I have been useing Echo trimmers for years mostly with the string heads but according to the manual I am doing it correctly and with the correct parts.. I am leaving nothing out so what is the deal here?? Is there something worn out around the shaft bearing in the gear case where that inner cup seats?? I am puzzled over this one.. Any help appriciated!!!!

The blade attaches to the trimmer head differently than the string apparatus. Check your manual to see what you need to adapt the blade.

Yes according to the instructions in the blade kit it uses a special washer followed by the left hand threaded nut. The blade kit comes with the same cup as is used with the string head with "20" stamped in it. I sure am puzzling over this one...

Did you buy the blade kit or just the blade. On mine once you change the guard there is a bushing and a washer then a cup, the blade and a locking nut. I know that I had to buy the whole kit to get the correct bushing.

Short of small trees and brush I have put the "gator" plastic cutters with the stainless steel edges on. It tears through small brambles and small tree suckers.

I bought the complete blade kit and am putting it together just as the instructions say. Mine doesnt have a washer. Is yours an Echo? I may like to try a head like you are talking about I have used the Echo one with the all plastic blades and they work well though they wear out rapidly. Thanks for the info

The 'gator' is like the plastic ones except there is a thin stainless edge on the plastic cutters. Got it at HD where I got my ECHO.

Did you try turning the cup upside down? One end fits against the flare on the working head. Open part of the cup goes against the blade.

I will look for cutter blades like you are talking about those would work better. No I will toy with it some more and see if it will work with the cup turned upside down.
