Pressure washer bogging.

Hi. I have a 5hp honda powered pressure washer (home depot) and it worked great untill recently it seems to have developed a pressure problem. The water pressure just builds untill it stalls if you are not spraying with it. It used to idle smoothe when you took your finger off the trigger. It seems to me it must have some pressure bypass valve that is stuck. Anyone know how to go about fixing this?

Hi What kind of pump these it have? Your unloader has debris in it take it off and clean it out ,becarefull how it goes back togeather.

Most likely the unloader valve is stuck. Some call it the bypass valve.

Its kind of like a relief valve. when the pressure gets too high (you release the handle on the wand), it opens and allows the water to recirculate in the pump/valve.

If you look in your owners manual there may be a parts breakdown in the back you can use to try taking it apart yourself, or to order a replacement.

Its often built into the adjustable pressure knob. try reducing the pressure and operating it at different pressures a few times, and see if it unsticks itself.

Sounds like the unloader or maybe it is called a relief or by pass valve is not opening. It's function is to let the water bypass back into the inlet side of the pump when you close the trigger on the wand. On my unit it is called an unloader valve. Look in your owners manual, or parts breakdown pictures to locate it and go from there.Probably has trash in it. Some are non servicable, just replace the whole unit.
