Hi Marv, Yep thats the draw back of the smaller Mig machines as you've exceeded the maxmium output for a given steel thickness for that type of machine.

Several things might improve weldability a small amount. Use a Helium gas mixture, 75%Helium 15%argon 10%co2. I don't know if this gas mixture is availble in your area. But the Helium is a must as it will cause a hotter weld puddle and better penetration.

Use a #10awg wire supply voltage source from the breaker. Yep I know your pluging in a #12 cord from the machine, but it did improve my machine a "small" amount. Worth the cost, Nope! But I had the wire so it didn't cost me anything to try it.

Use only .024 filler wire.

Keep your ground short as possible.

Preheat if all else fails. I use this all the time when I just have to want Mig, instead of breaking out the buzz box.

It will make a decent Tig machine tho!

Check to make sure your polarity is right for a gas mix. Lots of these 110s use flux core, and the settings are set for those. If not right, the bead usually just lays on top,ie cold weld.
