I bought 5 or 6 cases of the tinted lamp kerosene at an auction a couple of years ago. When we lose power here from ice storms or hurricanes it always takes the 3 - 4 weeks to get our power back.

Problem it one of the plastic bottles started to leak probably from age.

Can I safely dump this into my fuel oil tank that runs my furnace I have about 150 gallons of fuel oil in the tank presently.

Chuck, the new Kerosene doesn't work very well in lanterns, too hard to control them. I think they make it different now to burn cleaner. The lantern will flare up then you turn it down it almost goes out, turn it back up a bit and then it flares up again. Lamp oil works okay and burns steady.

I have about 50 Kero lamps of all kinds. "collection" Too much time at the flea markets. The best stuff for lamps is from Exxon. ClearLite. Total sythetic and is great stuff. No smell and it is a totally clean burn. It also burns with almost a cream color flame and much brighter! Also Stripclean makes Cleanburn or some such name. Both can be found at Home Depot and are about $6.oo per gallon. Pricey but it is Great stuff. Straight charcoal lighter fluid is fine too. Don't get the smoke scent stuff! The stuff you have with color will slowly plug up the wicks in your lamps. Makes a great big pile of carbon along the top of the wick. The syth. stuff is SO clean that it will evaporate after about one year in your lamp. It will leave NO residue! I would dump that other stuff in your furnace tank and not worry about it. My $.o2. It will be fine mixed with your fuel oil, but if it's the good smelling stuff when it burns, I would find something to keep it in for the lamps.

Thanks. These are 1/2 gallon jugs. I was going to save 1-2 gallons and dump the rest into the tank.

I didn"t know if this had a shelf life since it is a couple of years old.

Chuck, if it was mine, I would dump it in the tank.

We have 8-10 kerosene lamps, they all have the fuel that has a much better smell than Kerosene and not sure what it is, something the Wife bought for them, It is old stuff but it still burns fine, and still has the perfume smell.
