Hi! Looking for some information. A fella wanted my buzz box worse than I did so I let him hold it. Soo---the question is if you could have only one welder, and had a limit of about $400.00 to spend what would be the machine of choice? Usually see a lot of wise info. on this board THANKS lgd

Gene, I must agree with T bone, I was in a similar situation on buying a new welder with limited funds for the farm. Check out my Lincoln ac/dc update article. I did all that is listed for around the $400 dollar mark and am totally satisfied. I love Mig, but arc welding is versital for the cost, and I think forces one to become a much better welder. I have friends with migs who make a pretty weld but not a penetrating one. Good Luck ! Bill

Hi Gene, For that amount of dollars your limited. The Lincoln AC/DC machine is a good buy. After owning a cheap wire machine, Lincoln SP100, and using the best and I was only going to spend $400 I would go with a stick machine. Much more verstile and you can also Tig with it. But you can also Tig with alot of the small wire machines but they won't weld as thick of metal without preheating.
