My DC is converted to 12 volt. How many cold cranking amps (battery size) would you recommend? It is likely to see little winter (Wisconsin) use. Thanks, Glenn F.

The largest CCA vibation resistanr battery that will fit in there. Don"t skimp of the cables or tewrminals or that battery"s capability is being restricted. The AGM batteries from Optima etc are more resistant to abuse and sitting unused.

I've been told that when it gets below freezing that batteries loose 1/2 their cranking power, so the bigger you can get the better.

Whatever fits I'd say. 6v starting batteries come in like 600cca, so a 300cca 12v battery should be able to provide the same amount of power. A reasonably priced and sized car battery should be able to provide twice that.

I'd say look at a deep cycle battery that fits first. It will give you longer cranking than a battery with high CCA's only. Also it is more durable and can withstand more charge/discharge cylcles.

Higgh CCA's are neccessary when in very very cold climate where the battery is not efficient due to being frozen and the starter requires much more current to start a frozen engine... not sure if thats your situation there...

There is so little spread in the price of batterys, from low CCA's to high CCA's, in most cases, I would simply get the highest CCA one, within reason, that you have room for in the battery box.

I totally agree. Never know when you will need it and if you are plowing a field 15 miles from home and getting home depends on starting the tractor.....that may have used up some of it's capacity due to a problem..... need I say more.
