I was on the road working in a company, and I left my S-K sockets 1/2 drive there. Could someone recommend a good set to replace the set I lost? What type, or brand would you recommend? Are Sears good enough? I would look around at the fle-markets, but it is to late for them. Thanks.

Bob

Craftsman tools are pretty good but beware of SEARS brand tools. Have been given a few as gifts, the giver thought all tools from Sears are Craftsman. Not So. The Sears tools didn't hold up as well as similar Craftsmans.
I have a toolbox full of S-K sockets and wrenches too, and they're the best handtools I've ever owned.

Hi guy,

i am a firm snap-on man, they are the best i have ever used, The snap-on guy comes by, if i need a new tool, he replaces it. no Sears stores in my area. You almost never lose a Snap-on tool, for 30 bucks a wrench, you can not afford to. Lot of Craftman tools are now made in Tiawan. good luck paul

Around here S-K is mostly found at auto parts or discount stores and when you break one 3 years from now they say sorry we sell K-D tools now. Craftsman tools are very good and Sears will back them up. I make my living turning wrenches and I prefer Snap-On, Mac, Matco and Craftsman in that order. Buy the best you can afford, cheap tools are wasted money.

I would never trade my SK's for a Craftsman. When I was in Ag Mech School I worked with a fellow that bought the largest dream box of Craftsman tools you could find. We were removing cylinder bars on a combine and his 6 point sockets would round off the corners of the bolts. After he was done rounding I took my standard 12 point SK's and removed those same cap screws. It made him and I both believers in the SK's. But with todays poor service I think i would probably purchase Allen or Snap-On there are even a few good tools offered by John Deere(though they are foreign made).

: Bob I have mixed feelings, at best, about Sears power tools, but I'm a firm believer in Craftsman hand tools. I've used them for more than 30 years and have only broken a couple of sockets, a breaker bar (and that was because I admittedly used too long a pipe!) and a fiberglass hammer handle. Well, maybe a few screwdriver tips, too. Practices seem to vary from store to store, but I've never been questioned when returning a broken tool. One nice thing about Craftsman hand tools is that you can usually find a Sears store to honor the warranty. Dollar for dollar, they're good tools.

Biggest problem I have seen with Craftsman hand tools is that if you manage to break something, you may not be able to find the exact same item to replace it. I inherited a 1/2 inch speeder bar (like a brace and bit for sockets) from my Dad and it had a big bend in it from having a Farmall 400 drive over it. I went to replace it and the new speeder bar wasn't nearly as nice, so I opted to try and straighten mine. There were no questions asked, though. And I've never busted a socket. I don't use cheater bars, though. I figure if I can lean (250 lb) on the end of a ratchet and the nut doesn't budge, something is wrong and I need to use some penetrating oil and patience.
