After reading the recent discussion on stopping a compressor from walking around, I thought I'd upload a pic of how I mounted mine. I too did not want to bolt it to the floor, but I figure the wooden pallet base (which I've seen numerous times) looks kinda redneck to me.

I had some 2x3 steel tubing left from a project and it proved to be exactly enough. Cut a 4 foot piece and then four more pieces that exactly meshed and welded them together. I'm not a good welder and the old JC Penny AC welder doesn't help any, but its more than strong enough. I drilled the holes thru the legs for the machenery feet prior to welding, used the drill press to get them square. Freehanded the holes for the compressor feet when all done. I also installed a street ell and a pipe and ball valve and a clamp mount to make draining easier and less messy than the brass petcock the compressor came with.

The machinery feet came from MSC on a sale. Mason Industries MLS-500 feet for about $9 each.

The shadow in the pic is a quirk of the camera, with low ambient lighting, the flash is shadowed by the lens hood/filter mount.

I have mine setting on an old thick rubber mud flap. Some of the rubber matting or conveyor belting would work also.

Looks nice, I justleft both of my units on shipping pallet as they are both in insulated sound deadening cabinets anyway. All you see is cabinet. I have the bottom drains on both tanks removed and have a regular outlet hose on them. Keeps them drained out and have another air hose to go outside the shop. I justlet it blow out this one before using at times. I have drop drains thru out the shop at every outlet below the hose couplers. the 2 eighty gal tanks are tee together really weorks nice

Well, that looks nice. Guess I got a redneck compressor base too and it has only moved once and that's when I moved to another shop. I got a drain like that on my 80 gal. vertical too but no red hose on it there. Just do the redneck thing and let it sweep the floor while draining. lol.

Mines on a pallet made of 4 x 4"s. It works great and the compressor don"t walk around. Just left it on there when I got it, seemed like the redneck thing to do. Yours looks very nice however and I like the pads for viabration.

Well, I guess your commentary puts another "feather in my redneck hat"!

My 80-gallon vertical compressor has very happily lived on it's wooden shipping pallet since about 1985, and has never moved, nor given a moments problem!

Nice job on your base, though, especially the water drain.

When i took delivery of my vertical compressor, the place told me to either leave it bolted to the wooden pallet, or bolt the feet to the floor, because, in time, vibration would cause the legs to eventually break off, if not bolted down!
