Hey guys now that i have my big air compressor geared the way it should be spinning at about 680 rpm or so, she starts to move when working...its a 60 gallon upright and a very hevy unit, what can I do to stop if from moving. Im not crazy about drilling holes into my new garage floor to anchor it down...but If I have to I will, any other suggestions would be apperciated.
Jay.

Jay---

The compressor is not perfectly balanced, so at higher RPM it may want to walk.....drill holes in the floor and put belting or very hard rubber under each leg....put a large, thick steel washer on top.....pull the bolts down only snug..... this will help keep the strain off the moving parts.....

I took an old tire and cut four squares out of the face of the tire and put them under the feet of my 80 gallon Quincy. The rubber keeps the vibration from transmitting into the floor. It works great but cutting the tire with a sawzall was a B!&@h.

When I first set mine up, I just had it sitting on thre wood blocks. However, the wood transferred a lot of the vibration to my concrete floor, which is a floating slab with radiant heating tubes in it. The end result was that the whole floor became a "sounding board" and the noise was VERY loud. What I did was made an upper and lower plate of 3/4 inch plywood, and sandwiched between the two are a dozen old Chevy small block valvesprings spread out evenly. I bolted the compressor legs to the top plate, and now all of the vibration is absorbed by the springs, and the sandwich transfers zero vibration to the floor. The compressor doesn't move at all, but does dance a little when running. Just letting me know it's alive..... .

I had the same problem with mine, I put some 1/2 in thick rubber belting under the feet and it hasn't moved yet

I helped a guy from a compressor company install a new unit at our tire store and he had some special rubber pads to set the compressor on. They were about 3/4" thick, 4" square. Sticky on both sides. With the compressor about 6" off the ground he cleaned the "feet" of the tank with a solvent first and then just pressed the pads to the feet. He then cleaned the spots on the floor where the pads would be, let it dry for a bit and set the unit down. They have never moved !

Hi Jay,

I recommend you look into adjustable machinery mounts. They are basically leveling feet with a thick rubber base that contacts the floor. I've used them for a long time under a four cylinder 12.5kw electric generator on a concrete floor. They work great to prevent any "walking" of the equipment. They should do fine under your compressor. They do not require any holes in the floor. I think I got mine years ago from Travers Tool in NY. Any machinery or machine shop supply outfit should have them. They come in different stud sizes and load ratings.

Try setting it on some rubber matting.

You can't expect an item of that size to not move. They are designed to be bolted to the floor, preferably with vibration dampers under the feet. Even then then bolts can loosen and need to be checked periodically.

Is it sitting on its metal legs on the floor or do you have boards under the legs?? If you put boards or a pallet under it that might help.

Well then you now know what your problem is, when they run they shake a little and then walk. The boards will take out the little shake and stop the walk. Also it will keep the cement floor from being cracked up where it is sitting.

I have a similar compressor. I left mine sitting on the original wooden pallet that it came on. It has never even offered to move. You might try setting yours on some 2X4 blocks.
