53 Series Detroit with four valve heads and the updated springs were rated for 2800 under load. Fast idle was 2950 or something in that area. Some little Diesels diesels on generators ran at 3600rpm.E.G. Onan, Yanmar etc.

Not exactly production, but IH built an experimental tractor with a turbine engine. I would imagine that would have turned somewhere in the range of 10-30,000 RPM.

Probably my Super M when the hired boy came down the long hill to the farm with 2 loaded hay wagons behind it. Must have hit about 6000 rpm before the 2 rods came through the side of the block and broke the crank.

I had a friend with a 7080 Allis that wound out to 2800-3000 rpm with the six cylinder. He blamed the high speed as a factor in the poor reliability of his tractor. I think they had a recommended service interval for replacing rod bolts like the Cat V8 engines.

I have a LEHR Big Boy that came from the factor with a Chylser engine. RPM's are set with gov. at 2950 but could turn almost twice that.

The "Jimmy" diesels are 2-stroke cycle engines, so they have twice the exhaust pulses at a given RPM than a 4-cycle engine at the same speed, so based on the exhaust sound, they sound like they are running twice as fast as they ACTUALLY are.

Not sure but our MF 1800 has a V-8 Cat that hits 3000 rpm's without a load. I would think any other V-8 powered tractor would be in that range too. Of course there may be a gasser that revs higher.
