Fawteen is right, if it sat without running for more than a month or two, the carb is probably gummed up. The gas these days is very corrosive and plugs up those tiny idle jets pretty easily. Take the carb apart and push some fine wire through the idle jet and that will fix it. Clean up the whole carb while you're there, you'll probably find some corrosion and some fine powdery stuff in the bowl too.

Most likely culprit is crud in the carb partially blocking a fuel passage. Take it off, take it apart, clean it thoroughly and blow it out.
