Eletrical power questions

I just run power to my shop and now I�m confused on if I did it right.

I ran a second set of wires from the meter to a fused disconnect. (This does not come out of my house panel.) From the disconnect I ran three wires (2 power, 1 ground) about 300 feet to a 100 amp service a panel in my shop. Next I am going to put in the two grounding rods (6 feet apart). Hook the power wires and neutral wire up. Hook grounding rods to panel. Do I put in the bonding screw in panel? Do I need grounding rods?

Obviously you were not seeking criticism, but I have some to offer. The arrangement you have could possibly overload the service laterals or service riser and the metering arrangment. Potentially, the current through the meter at a given time could be the maximum of the house service PLUS the maximum of shop disconnect rating. That might be far more than the service rating. Secondly, it would have been far better to resolve the grounding plan issues before work began. Things happen on purpose or by accident. This installation looks like an accident.

Thanks for your input. I know this isn't the place to get wiring information, there are professionals for that. I have a plan and the replies from below got me confused. The plan I have and the materials have come from an electrician and a power company engineer. I can understand your concerns about some people doing a less the perfect job to save money and work, but not this time. Thanks again for your input.

What wire size and type? The 3rd "Ground" wire, is it bare or insulated? The "ground" is connected to which lug in the disconnect? How is the disconnect box grounded? How many wires from the disconnect to the shed? How far is the disconnect from the meter base? Ground rods are supposed to be at least 10 ft apart. A proper ground would have been 300 ft of bare #6 copper laid in the trench. How deep was the trench and is there road traffic over it? Is the wire in conduit? Fours wires to shed, remove the bond screw. Three wires, then ground rods have to be used and the bond screw used. I have a feeling that to be legal as far as wire sizing with 2% voltage on feeders. Your disconnect should be fused for about 30 to 40 amps at most, depending. It's all find until some insurance inspector finds any excuse to weasel out of a claim.

How did you get the extra wires out of the meter can?? you drug 3 wires out there so I assume you have no metallic connections between the two buildings, like cable tv, gas line, water line, phone line, if you do you should have had 4 wires, if you don't and have 3 wires, you use the bonding screw and pound ground rods, and I would put them further than 6 feet apart, like at least 9 to be even more effective, you are going to have ground rods no matter what anyway. I usually just put a 2 pole 100 amp breaker in the panel in the house and drag out number 3 or number 2 if it's a longer distance when it comes to wire in the lugs it's usually one to a customer unless identified for more than one conductor what do you have double lugs on the load side of that meter or did you just mash them in there and torque them down

if i understand right, your meter is connected to the fused disconnect, and from there, splits and one set of wires goes to the house and one set goes to the shop.

if this is the case, there should be ground rods driven at the disconnect and the ground and neutral bonded there. at all other panels the ground and neutral should be separate. that means you should have 4 conductor wire going to the shop and to the house panel. neither one of those panels should have the bonding screws installed. also, the shop should have ground rods driven and connnected to the grounding bar in the panel.
