Most well supply stores around here(S Eastern MA) sell Gould pumps, but I've run into a number of Flint&Walling pumps recently in my service work. They seem to be very well made. I replaced one yesterday 25 years old. A Goulds was $288 and a F & W was $289. I took F & W. The new pump was identical to the old. Same model #, etc. I guess it was a good enough design to keep. CPJ05B. The only difference I saw was the riveted on metal plate with model #, date code, etc has been replaced with stick on paper. Anyone have good or bad experience with these two brands, or the stuff at Sears, HD, or Lowes that cost 40% less?

We had a low yield well system. Gould 2hp down in the deep well supplying the tank and a Gould Jet Pump on the surface supplying the house/barn. The Jet Pump motor went out and found tiny slugs (snails without the shells) had gotten thru the the wire mesh and fried the motor after the second year in oper. Replaced the jet pump with a cheap one and it lasted 12 years and still going. LOL

F&W is located in Kendallville, IN. They make and sell a lot of pumps, particulary here in the midwest. I've got an F&W on my well that's on it's third motor. It was installed in '59. The well is only 60 feet deep, but it's been worked hard for many years.

FW makes great shallow well pumps, had them most of my life. Don't know if FW makes a deep well, but wouldn't be surprised. I've got a deep well in this house, and haven't dug up whatever pump is buried out there. FW is a pretty sound, basic design that they've used forever it seems. Brass bushings go bad, go down and get a new set and replace them. Impeller goes bad, get one and replace it too. The motors can be repaired by any motor repair. Can buy pressure switches anywhere. Like the Eveready Bunny, they just keep going. Got a Wayne one night when the FW went out and couldn't get parts that late, and used it. Very similar design. Learned my lesson, out in the country have a backup setting ready on a shelf. Both are noisy though, but are part of living way out. Just like pig s... stinks, you get used to it and don't notice it most times.

Once had a Montgomery Ward, made by Jacuzzi I think. Had a plastic impeller and got a hole in the well point. A small piece of sand or gravel hit that impeller, and that was the end of that. Couldn't get parts. Quiet though, until that happened.
