i just got a weld pak wire feed and was wondering if i could replace the power cord it has with a longer heavier gauge cord

Depends a little on what you are welding. I"ve run mine extensively on a 100 ft 12ga cord only using the 2 lower heat selections. I"ve used it mostly for sheet metal but I"ve been doing several feet of seam at a time without problems.

Hi Kevin,

I agree with Joel & Stan, head to Wally World and in the RV dept they carry a 10ga RV extension cord, 25ft?, about $30. Works great on my SP100.

Hi Kevin,

I agree with Joel; a heavy gauge extension cord would be more convenient. It gives you the option to not use it when you're close enough to an outlet without it, and it's usually easier to transport a piece of equipment that doesn't have long cords and hoses attached to it.

I don't know what kind of plug is on your on your weldpak but if it's an unusual one, you may have to buy a matching outlet and a plug for whatever house outlet you'll be taking power from, and make your own expension cord. You must already be comfortable at that level of wiring or you wouldn't be asking about changing the power cord on your welder.

maube easier to get heavy duty extension cord like 10/3 or something?
