I am wanting to buy a reasonably priced sandblaster. Any recomendations? I have a 5 HP with a 60 gallon tank compressor. Thanks

I have both types too. The siphon fed unit is one I got from Sears years ago and it's fast to set up for small jobs. The pressure tank fed units are faster and more versatile once you learn how to set them and it varies with temp and humidity that day and sand grit size you are using. You can change the nozzles easier on one of those too for different size sand grit and to match your air compressor. I think TIP only sells cabinets now but that is the brand I have. I see some nice ones in the Northern catalog sometimes. The trick on the pressure fed one is to have a choke valve on side of top air tank input which helps vary sand flow and can help clear plugs when humid and also a cross pipe fitting on the bottom with a pipe plug to help clear out slugs. A good moisture trap is a must and don't install it too close to the compressor. I have on the wall away from the compressor and another right on the blaster. www.tptools.com www.blast-it-all.com

Ihave both the pressure tank type and the suction type there is no comparison. The tank type is much more powerfull. I have heard a lot of people say they did not like the pressure type, but I think that is because they did not understand how to set up the control valves. It is tricky, and the one I got (harbor freight) did not come with instructions as to how to set it up.. once you figure out the right combination (mixture of sand and air) they work great and make effecient use of the sand. You do not (need) a huge compressor to run it. you just have to go slow and not over run the compressor

I have 2 types of them one a tank model which I never use any more and a $12 wal-mart cheapy that I use all the time. Seems to work better then the tank type and cost a whole lot less.

I"ve tried little portable ones and found them next to useless but I"m happy with my HF 100# pressure fed unit. On the other hand, I have a 7.5 HP, 2-stage compressor that will stay ahead of it.
