I have been wanting to pour concrete in the front part of my barn and put doors on it to keep the snow out. Called the concrete plant the other day and they will only sell if you have a contractor license. Wouldn't even give me the price. I decided I would just pour enough to put the doors on. Called the local lumber yard and they will only sell you two bags of Portland cement. Heard Home Depot will only sell you 10 bags of the premix stuff. Was told by the premix place that everything is going to China, first it's steel and gas now cement.

Here in Indiana one of the largest concrete business' was found guilty of price fixing. Each of the top execs was fined $20,000, the company(IMI) was fined, and ordered to make restution. The state says it takes more than one to price fix. Now they are hunting others involved.

It is still available here, but cement is mined & made here on the SC coast. Price has gone through the roof, though...The price quote for a 10,000sq/ft warehouse of tilt up slabs, went up over 50,000 dollars in 6 months.....

It's the same here in Maryland. If a homeowner can find someone to deliver to him, the price is $130/cy right now.

Damn, still ranting. The local used tractor dealer that I have been trying to get rims from through a Denmark distributor with the rims made in Turkey still is not placing an order to have used tractors shipped here becouse she has not sold many from the last order due to people buying cheap new ones. What is going to happen when we are cut off in war or something else and we have no manufacturers for durable goods. We would have to buy stuff from a country that we may be at war with. Sorry for the rant, I am just going off. I have waited for tires and rims for my "stuck in the barn" 4000 for 6 months.

I heard that last year but found it not to be. I had no problem getting mine for my garage floor.Right now in our town there might be a shortage because of the US RT. 30 bypass project that is finally underway.

I hear they are threatening with nuclear weapons if we defend Tiawan and we continue to send billions over there. We should dramatically cut back. I am all for competition, but we are putting ourselves in a hell of a position for the future. Our direction does not look to be a good one. I hope I am wrong. We send money and resources over there and much of our money does not return and like Momma used to say, it does not grow on trees.

Hey George,
Don't know if you heard... last week or so, Chinese gov't placed the high bid to purchase UniCal (Union Oil Company)... not the largest oil company in the world but has enough production that, if diverted to China, we would definitely notice the difference. I was kinda worried for a day or two there, but heard yesterday that the Board of Directors was asking shareholders to accept the lower bid offered by Exxon/Mobil. Hope someone listens!
As others have mentioned, we're busily painting ourselves into a corner! We've exported the lion's share of our manufacturing to various other nations, to the point that we no longer produce much of anything. We (Americans in general) happily continue to buy cheap imported junk from Wally World without a thought to tomorrow. What happens when any one country pretty much owns all the manufacturing capabilities in the world, then decides to start jacking up prices??? What costs a buck today will cost $100 tomorrow!!! at that point, there'd be very little that could be done about it! I definitely hope "big brother" is watching this one! Regards, DL

George I'm with you on that, talked to a 91 year old rancher on the big Island and he told me they were in there getting all the old iron they could find in 1938. and in 1939 they were back getting anything they could find, even rusty tin cans, of course they brought it all back Dec 1941, think we are on a repeat course only worse this time.
