I just picked up a used Esab 500I & it seems like unless I have it set above 1/2 on the adj. knob it will not start to cut.It just makes little sparks like a arc welder does when you have it set to low. It does not seem to matter how thin of metal I am cutting. When I turn it up to about 75% it seems to work fine. , does anyone know if this is normal on this machine or not. One other thing it has a triiger lock on the front, what does this do? I did call Esab & order a book for it but I would like to find out soon if something is wrong with it. Thanks for any help. Dan

Hi Dan, first make sure you have a good ground to your work. If thats not it then try changing the electrodes, thats the first 2 things I do when my plasma cutter acts like that. I have a miller thats a fine little unit, it just goes through a lot of consumables. j
