I take a garlic pill every day, and besides it being good for my heart....the bugs don't come near me. I went on vacation to Virginia...and didn't bring the garlic pills with me. By the end of the week, bugs were all over me like stink on you know what. Came home, two days of garlic pills and wa-la....no more bugs. Now if that ain't the darndest thing.....

Get a piece of fly tape and sorta make a bow out of it and pin it to your hat.
The flies get stuck while reconoitering around your head.

Do you mean deer flys? Deere flys hang around manure and other green items.

Don't think I've ever seen a Deere fly, seen several of them hiding in the grass, and at the tractor show last weekend I did see several of them actually out on display, but I've never seen one fly.

Very nice, I wonder if someone could get a riding Deere to fly also? I'd like to see that.

Yeah those deere flys are *itch aint they. I use a lot of Off bug repellant. and it doesnt hurt to have a 55gal. drum of wood and brush burning cause the smoke will push them away. It seems that this year is real bad for those flys.

Hey Jay, I'd like to say a 12GA with buckshot, but... Would make for a good comedy movie though. I've never been able to shake them persay either, and the bast...s just don't quit for a long time, usually not for a good 10 minutes or so. Got me on that one.

Sunday was trying to hook up the bushog onto the Deere, and it's been setting on railroad ties for a couple of months (no rain), and had a couple of ties laying in front of it too. I couldn't get back far enough with the 3 point to reach, so spun around and shoved them out of the way with the loader, and spun around and backed up. That's when I noticed the yellow jackets that had built a nest under the ties, and they noticed me too. They don't quit either. Had to take off on the tractor, and come up with a plan. Grabbed a long log chain, ran in and hooked up as best I could, and ran away arms swatting to keep them off of me. Then drug that hog out about 40', hoping that chain wouldn't come off and take me off the tractor. It didn't. Think I'll go after them yellow jackets at night. I hope they sleep.

Mark

A steady diet that includes garlic & onions & the bugs avoid you. Never use smelly soap or such when working.

Jay: I hear you--this has been a very bad year for them here in northern NY. They"re big this year too--last night I had a 10-pointer still in velvet buzzing around me..... What works the best for me is Old Time Woodsman fly dope--it"s DEET-free and seems to help the most of anything I"ve tried. One drawback is that it stinks to high heaven--I have an old ball cap that is my "fly dope cap" and that"s all it gets used for.

I never tryed them and I can"t recall where i saw them at. But the make something that you put on the back of your hat, and either repel"s or makes them stick to it. Hope this might help Mike

Nope...I've had them go after my arms and ankles..little blood suckers. They really hurt. Can't seem to swat them to death, they're quick.

They like to get in your hair, but they will bite you any place they can.

I put "Off" on a hat, and wear it. They still bite right through a shirt though.

Robert
