just got back from hot/humid family trip to Wash, DC, high point was the other Air/Space Museum on corner of Dulles airport, huge hanger full of great stuff

45 minute drive from DC and $12 to park but well worth it

they have genuine honest-to goodness SR-71, when Sacramento took plane out of service, crew flew it to Dulles setting speed record on the way, crew landed at Dulles taxied over to museum and tossed the keys to the staff

They also have genuine Concorde donated by Air France when they went out of service, landing gear on display is as impressive as the plane

very best part (for me) was large aircraft engine display under the walkway, biplane engines thru turbines with great parts/tools display on one wall

rebuilding a tractor engine taxs my skills, cannot imagine a human hand being able to build or repair one of those huge radials but they did it

Check out the USAF museum in Dayton, Ohio. They have a Connie you may walk through as well as everything from the Wright Flyer to the Stealth in several hangars. It's free. It's huge. It's wonderful. Several years ago I was flying a cargo sub-contract that gave me a lot of time in Dayton. I spent 5 or 6 days in the museum and could spend 5 or 6 more. Don't miss the Memorial to the Wright brothers - in Dayton, but not at the museum.

Wow! Sounds like some pretty neat stuff. Would like to see it some time. Hope you got plenty of pictures.

Decades ago the Army sent to Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL. for training for Pershing missle guidence by mistake. It took them 2 weeks to figure out that I was supposed to be in Georgia repairing satellite radio stuff, but on the other side of the hill NASA had a museum with some pretty neat stuff too. I had 2 weeks to kill, so...

By the way, I aint one, but some still believe the moon walks were shot in a hollywood studio.

Mark

Hamilton Ontario has one of two flyable Lancasters in existence. What a sight and sound seeing her fly. Dwarfs a B-17 or B-24. I used to see it as a kid, rotting on a pedestal at the Goderich Airport.

Did they ever get the Lockheed Constellation restored? I used to fly one.

Their "Connie" sat at Dulles Airport for about 10 yrs. all alone. Eventually, someone figgered out what to do with her.

If you weren't aware of it, there is a flying Connie in Kansas City. Love to hear it when it flies over. What a sound.
