I'm using a tablespoon of washing soda per gallon of water in a plastic 5 gal. bucket. When I first put in a rusty wrench, it had good "boiling' action with less than 1 amp on the charger. After a couple of days the bubbles stopped. I cleaned the mess off the anode and got some more slight action, but now there is nothing happening. The water has cleared up. I get no spark from the clips like when it first started. Is this normal after a certain time? I think the charger is OK.

here's what I'm doing. I'm using a 5 gal square plastic bucket. Across the top opposite corners is laid a 3/8 steel rod with short verticle pieces welded at each end to keep it from rolling off. For each gal of water I add 1 tablespoon of washing soda. One end of a piece of 12 gauge bare copper house wire is wrapped around the center of the rod and the object to be derusted (a wrench) is hung from the other end, submerged in the solution. A 1/4" steel rod 18" long is welded to an 18 ga. flat steel plate about 4x6". The plate is lowered into the solution, not touching the derusting object. A battery charger's red clamp is placed on the 18" rod and the black clamp is placed on the end of the horizontal rod. Be sure to keep the charger clamps dry and out of the solution. Turn the charger on and the wrench will have thousands of tiny bubbles coming off it. The plate will get gunk on it and should be cleaned occasionaly. This is my first attempt, so I'm not sure of how much soda to use or how long to continue the process. You can search for "Electrolysis" on this site to learn more.

I keep adding soda till my amperage on the charger gits up to 5, 6, 7, amps i tryed the table spoon deal and did not werk. Now i just pour it in and watch the amp meter on the charger
