C-H 6hp rated singlestage upright,2cyl-60 gal.
Recently compressor has developed occaisional problem. As top pressure is neared, compressor will suddenly"hard stop" almost like locking up.Switch bleed will vent and a few seconds later, without any drawdown, compressor will restart, pump up to 125 and shut down normally.
Does this sound like an unloader or a swith problem or combination of sorts?Does somethimg need cleaning/replacement?Where to start?

If the unloader valve is bleeding, then the switch is turning the compressor off. Sounds like you have a switch going bad. The linkages might have excess wear in them, which may cause it to trip out prematurely. A new switch shouldn't be more than $30-$40. Has anyone been fooling with the differeential pressure range on the machine?

Thanx,Unit is mid 90s and has always worked well.No one has fooled w/switch adjustments and switch is original..std differential pressure
switch,I believe 0n/80ish,off 125.My primary concern was the lockup type stop.I'll check out the switch...I may have one I can swap in.

You might also look at your check valve. Had a similar problem on a Sears unit that had set up for several years without being used. Pump would lock-up but motor would continue to run. Luck was on my side and the belt slipped so no damage resulted. Cleaned the valve and cured the problem. I think the condition of no air leaving the pump because of the closed valve caused the pump to lock-up?? Like your pump, once the pressure bled off it would pick-up and run again. Good way to bend a connecting rod!!!
