Hey guys I have a 230 volt mig from Chicago electric and I know everyone says its crap but I think it welds good, I seal up exhaust parts and what not very nice, puts down a nice bead. The problem I have with the welder and my only complaint is the mig gun
and the way the wire is fed, once in a while it seems like the wire has a real hard time pushing out the gun and the rollers spin, Im running .030 wire right now. do you think perhaps the linner is junk? or the rollers the feed the wire are not very good. I also find it has to do with the way the gun is held if there is a curve in the cord feeding the gun I get that wire spin. what do you think I should try replacing first? Jay

The first thing to do is replace the tip. Make sure it is the correct size for your wire.
I have had good luck removing the liner and blowing it out with compressed air. Sometimes they will foul with fine dust from the wire.
You can check and make sure that the drive rollers arnt worn. Remove the rollers from the machine and hold them with a piece of wire in the grove. The wire should fit nice and tight. Also make sure you have the tension adjusted tight enough on the drive rollers. If you still have problems replace the liner.

How does one know what the right tension should be on the rollers?

I adjust mine just as tight as it needs to be without slipping. If they are too loose and slip it will wear the drive rollers faster. Scott

If the welder is in an area of high humidity, the wire could get rusted and it won't feed well. Run your fingers along it and if it's not smooth, remove enough from the spool till it's clean. I've had to cover my 30lb spool with a large black plastic bag. I was removing it every time to weld, and one time I forgot and nothing happened, so I left it on. I just make sure it stays away from the feed rollers.
