Need to know what years Chevy had the best bodies on their 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. Want to build a tow rig. Know that 73-80? were major rust buckets.
Always been a Chevy guy, Chevelles and Camaros,
but don"t know anything about their trucks. Most around here are Fords. Thinking 396/454 with a turbo 400 and 12 bolt? You guys have luck with any
years/drivetrains? Can do all the mechanicals, just don"t want to start with a rust bucket as a foundation. thanks

For towing you want 14 bolt rear end with 454 and turbo 400. It will be bullet proof. You can get most any parts for Chevy/GMC tucks 60s-70s. I would worry less about the year and more about the condition as all sheet metal is available except the cab. I love these trucks. I have 74 Chevy, 71 GMC and 84 GMC.

My self I have always liked the 1967-1973 rigs. Had a little rust trouble in the rocker panels but thats easy to fix. Also if you go that way and can find a GMC I'd jump on it because in those years the 1/2 ton had the 3/4 ton frame and the 3/4 had the 1 ton frame etc. Or in other words the GMC was just a heavyer chev truck.
