Yesterday's tip was using a pneumatic needler scaler to refurbish tractors. So I went and purchased one from Northern Tool last night ($39.95). It did not work to well on removing paint but it was OK for dirt and grim. Where I did find it useful was on had to reach places that the grinder wire wheel could not reach. What are your experiences? Is the cheap Northern Tool one typical? The lye gravey and wire wheel are hard to beat, but I keep trying to improve!

Got mine from Northern tools, it's absolutely the best tool I have found for removing the 20 layers of paint that used to be on my M. I would not want to be without it.
Yes, the tractor does have at least 20 layers of paint. It was owned by a county roads dept. and was repainted every year.

I have a Chicago Pneumatic that does a great job on thicker paint but is still good at thinner stuff. If you vary the distance of the needles from the target area you will find that it works better for a given thickness at certain angles and distances. Play with it and you will get it working at it`s optimum. HTH in some way.

I have one and I like it. It's the cheap Northern Tool model too. Works great when there are several layers of paint built up or where there is a lot of rust. Gets in where a wire wheel won't go too. Doesn't work as well when the old paint is still good.

It's the old story, no one tool is best for every job. Sometimes a needle gun is best, sometimes a wire wheel is best, sometimes I sandblast. All depends on the situation.
