OT - LP quick disconnect

When I built new house 3 yrs. ago I had an LP line stubbed out on back porch for LP grill. Gas company put a quick disconnect on it so I could attach new grill. Local gas co. got bought out and relocated to metro area.

Father's Day I got my grill I have been saving for. Went to the BIG BLUE BOX HOME CENTER and was told LP Quick disconnects now outlawed. Sounds like hogwash but I cannot find one anywhere.

Are these the same as standard airline fittings? I was wanting to replace OPD knob with threaded quick disconnect while maintaining the regulator on the line.

The Air Hose type quick disconnect has been out 3 times in the last 35 years. Each time it has been a failure. If your air hose leaks a little you don't think anything of it and it is not really a problem. If your LP fittings leak, you have real problems. The A-H type is good as long as they are new, but like A-H they start to leak with age. Spend the extra money for the new 1/4 turn quick disconnect. They have been out for several years and are very good. You don't need any wrenches, they seal and don't leak, and have a built in safty valve. I base my statment on 35 years experiance delivering LP Gas. And don't blame the LP man, he has to suffer under Uncle Sams rules worse than you do.

Welcome to the world of Big Box Stores. And LP dealers.Dormont (.com) Model 961.Should be able to find Dormont products at good hardware,lp dist,grill,heating places.An online search showed some others,Dormont's catalog was handy.FWIW,most anything, within reason, is available,but when you utter LP,everybody goes nut case and has their own "rules,laws,idea's".Even same companies,diff job,day,employee,inspector.(My rant for the day,LOL).

Go to a local store that sells and repairs gas grills. They'll have it. The new style of QC is not all bad, I have both old and new. Old works like an air hose, new is threaded, but easier to install, and only one turn.

Air QC's are not recommended. I have someplace recently seen these LP fittings, but the female was made to screw into a bottle tank. Maybe you might call a gas company? I have heard nothing on them being outlawed.
