O.T. - 89' F250 power window problem

Rolled down my power window "driver"s side" the other day and it will not go back up. Pulled the door panel and checked the switch, it"s ok. Tried jumping power directly to the motor, still no go. The window is all the way down. I am not sure if the motor is bad or the mechanism is jammed up. I can drill out the rivets that hold the mechanism in the door but not sure how it comes apart. How is the window fastened to the arm that raises and lowers it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I just replaced mine because the gears were stripped. It was $44 from Advance Auto. They also had just the gears but they were over $30. I drilled 3 holes in the door inner skin to allow access to the 3 bolts that hold the motor on. The other option is to drill out the rivets and take out the whole assembly and then rerivet it back. Make sure you check it out switches and wiring before removing it . Power window switches reverse power and grounds to change directions . You need to make sure they are swapping before condemming motor .

Checked out the switch first thing. Pulled the plug at motor apart and checked voltage there. As you said pins change positive and ground for up or down. Even tried running a jumper pair and putting 12V and ground directly on motor plug for up and still no movement.

I have changed a number of these. Most likely the gear box has failed. It is attached to the motor which is held in by three bolts. The gear box (don't what else to call it) is available from the Ford dealer. Disconnect the wiring plug, pull the motor and gear box. You may need to prop up the window with a stick while doing this. There are dimples in the interior door panel to indicate where to drill 1/2" holes to reinstall the motor. Email if you need more info. Pete

How does the arm attach to the bracket at the bottom of the window? Since it is all the way down I can't get a good look at it.

I have an E-150 that I had the same problem with. I bought a used power unit from a salvage yard and replaced it. Then looked the old one over and found that the brushes had worn out on the old one, would been an easiy fix.
