Kellog Compair compressor

Was given this compressor by a maintenance shop because it was popping the circuit breaker when it tried to start (the shop bought a new compressor). The motor was off and the oil was draned from the crank case due to it being tipped over durng transport when I got it.
I have got it back together but don't know what kind and weight of oil to use in the crank case.
I think the circuit breaker problem could be an unloading issue, but don't know untill I start it. The motor runs good off of the unit, it is a 220v single phase.
Model B400B serial # 120-702
The compressor case sez made in Italy.

A good straight 30 weight non-detergent compressor oil is best. Shell makes a good product called Corena. Get the 122 grade.

This is a Balma pump, made in Italy as you say, and is what CompAir is using nowadays since phasing out the older made in USA cast-iron units. I would suspect that the motor has a bad capacitor, or the internal starting switch (if it has one) isn't working properly. Capacitor is the easier of the two to check. Make sure the capacitor is discharged before trying to measure it! Most will have a bleed resistor soldered between the leads nowadays, but if not, you can short the leads with a screwdriver or something else with an insulated handle.

I may have made a mistake in my previous post. I said that this was a Balma pump. If it is an older CompAir compressor (usually on a beige colored tank with a brown aluminum pump), it is a Ceccato pump, also made in Italy. The Balma is a black pump, with a triangular breather cover on the back end of the crankcase, opposite the flywheel. Ceccato parts may be a problem tracking down, as they are no longer sold over here. Good news is that they are surprisingly trouble free given the rapid speed at which they spin. The crankcase is vertically split however, which makes it a bit of a pain to work on, as the crancase must be split to change out the oil seal.
