If you have access to shop air near the equipment, HF will sell you a venturie vacuum pump for about 15 bucks. It does what I need it too.

I have an old Kelivnator, cast iron, belt driven, compressor on a heavy stamped steel plate. The motor was gone, I run it with a 1/4 horse off an old diaphgram air compressor my dad had years ago, and put casters under it. It was a drink box compressor, used Sulfur Dioxide for a refridgerant, before Freon was invented. It will pull 28+ inches and works well. Spits out a little oil, so I replinish the crankcase ocassionally.

If you know anyone that used to milk, a milking vacuum pump should be cheap.

I've used the compressor out of a central air conditioning unit for many, many years; only drawback, it can't be used "in the field"; have to have AC current..... .

Hi Bob,

As thrulow stated, used hermetic refrigeration compressors can pull about 28hg and auto refer compressors about 25hg.

You didn't state your vacuum needs but they both work well.

Thanks everybody.I have an old York unit off a Ford truck that I was going to adapt to the pickup for an air compressor.Guess I can belt it up amd use that.Have a leak in one of the 4430 tractors. It leaks out in a day of setting so it shouldn't take a genius to find it(thank heaven lol)I have already converted it over to R134A. Thanks T bone ,bob Now to find a vacuum gauge.
