Howdy,

I don't even know if there is such a thing made but what the heck.

Does anyone know if there is a socket set made for square headed nuts and bolts? I work on quite a few horse drawn pieces of equipment and this would make my life a bit easier.

Thanks much,

Gene Kidd

Hi Gene, I was going thru my Gempler's catalog tonight and forgot all about a needle socket. The socket contains a bunch of steel pins and when you put it over the nut, it conforms to the nut shape and size. 1/2" to 1-1/4" nut size in 1/2" drive, $15. I've never used one but it looks like it would work.

If I wanted to go hunting for square or eight point sockets I'd head for a pawn shop,,,, there seems to be many of these in the bottom of the tool bins, and they're cheap,,,,, and you can get name brands too,,,, another place is a large repair shop, mechanics have pushed the eight and four point sockets to the back as they almost never use them,,, might sell them cheap,,,,

Proto and Snap-on make 8 point sockets, mine are Proto. You can also use a good quality 12 point without much trouble.

Call you closest dealer for Armstrong Bros. Tool.

While I don't think anyone makes a set of sockets for square nuts, Armstrong offers many 4 and 8 point power sockets, sold individually, that might cover most of your needs.

Power sockets are basically a bulkier version of the chrome sockets you see and they are so strong that should last you forever.

J.H. Williams, Apex and maybe Proto might also have these sockets if you can't locate Armstrong easily.
