The Kohler Plan...

Hi Everyone:

I posted a couple weeks ago with questions about my carb (Kohler CV14T 14hp).

I decided to go ahead and buy a new carb. Since I'm not very experienced with fixing these things, and knowing it needed multiple points of TLC, for $75 I figured it was simpler & quicker to. Of course, no overnight shipping so I didn't get until Tuesday losing the long weekend to work on the mower!

If you recall, the float was one thing wrong with the old carb, so I flooded with gas up to the air cleaner.

My plan for this weekend for the mower:

1) Remove old carb
2) Remove spark plug
3) Pull the engine over a few times to "pump" out any gas that may be in the cylinder.
(It's a big commercial mower, so I can't just turn it on it's side to drain...especially since the starter for the tractor/FEL is out being rebuilt!)
4) Change oil & fuel filter
5) Put spark plug back in
6) Put on new carb & gaskets, hope new carb is set to at least get 'er running and then tweak as needed.

Anything I'm missing???

While the plug is out I would shoot a squirt of
oil in to coat the cyl. walls which were washed clean to relube and increase compression.

Go to Walmart and get a can of B-12 spray and pop off the fuel hose at the carb and stick the spray tube in there and give it a lick of spray...turn your head, it smarts in the eyes. Put the hose back on and fire it up and see if it does the same thing.
If it does....you can do all you planned or you can buy a needle and seat kit for that carb...pull it off and flip it over and take the bowl off, pull the old needle and seat out and install the new.

Of course, you already bought a new carb so you might as well put it on if the spray doesn't work. Most carbs do not break...a few replaceable parts wear out.

One more..you flooded the cylinder and spark plug initially...it's dry now. No need to pump out anything. Even fresh flooding...gas will evaporate in a half hour or so...faster if you take out the plug. Actually, you can start a flooded engine by just drying off the plug.

I usually pull the plug and with it hooked up and grounded crank the engine over some.
The first time I fired up the new K161 in my old Cub Cadet I flooded it and didn't have an extra plug. Thats all I did and it fired up fine.
