i had to replace the pump in my well. i also decided to replace the piping(all galvanized). when i took the cover off i saw the air tank was upside down. does it make any difference if its upsidedown, rightside up or laying on its side? one more thing, when we pulled the pump out we could see water in the pipe. i measured it and it was only 12ft down. does this mean that the water table is really high? by the way (i paid for 175ft and the pipe we pulled out was less than 125ft.) i guess they saw this ex yankee coming.LOL thanks for any help, bill

You may not have been taken. The static level really doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the water table. The well pipe could have freed up the water so it could come up near the surface.

My tank is a bladder type tank. Water on the bottom, rubber bladder and air on the top. If is trully a air tank it should not make any differance except for condensate draining out of the tank.

As for the water level, the outer casing should go down the 175 feet with a screen at the bottom. The pressure in the reservor will push the water up the casing. Mine is a 250 ft well and the water level is 12 feet down in the casing. If it is a submerssible pump it will not hang down the full 175 feet. Mine is about 50 feet down. The same will be true for the suction pipe of a jet pump.
