I"m wondering if anyone has some advise on adjusting my 8n carberator. It seems to be running real rich with some black smoke at the exhaust. Any suggestions?

Once, this time of year a mud-dobbers nest obstructed my N's air in-take, ==> black smoke.(c)

With the engine warmed up open the throttle all the way, turn the load needle in (right) until it starts to run rough then back it off about a quarter of a turn. You could also use a vacuum gauge and adjust for the highest reading. Remove the 1/8 pipe plug in the intake manifold to attach the gauge. You may adjust the idle needle in the same way only with the throttle fully closed. With a little practice listening to the engine you won't need a gauge. Ed

Mine was doing that and I gave the main needle 1/4 turn in and cleared it up. Maybe your float is sticking a little.
