Where can I go to get a 3 inch auger for my danhauser post hole digger? I"ve been looking around and haven"t had much luck. Thanks

You just gave me what I think is a great idea, using a pilot hole for posts. I have three miles of new fence to complete by 2010 and this should help a lot. Thank you for your post.(Pun intended.)

I've seen many guys drill a undersize hole with a PHD then push the post in with the loader bucket.

The post goes in straight, doesn't move around once in the hole and is much less work than back filling.

This works very good.

Thanks gentlemen for your input. Mr. Martin, Where did you get your literature from danuser? A 4 inch auger might work. I"m using it to drill pilot holes for a post pounder.

John, My "Beltec" has a 3in x 2ft long in rock bit attachment. It has a 6 hole flange that bolts up to the mount on the digger. You will probably need do build some sort of adapter, but it might work. call.....

John..... ...smallest augers made for PHD's is 6 inches. You need at least 6" so you have clearance to tamp the dirt to hold yer post ...or... to pour the concrete. You need smaller, you need a wagon drill like they use for dynamite. Sometimes you can get a jackhammer with a spud-head that will do a small deep hole.

Iff'n you really got yer heart set on a 3" auger, then buy a 6" auger and use a cutting torch to cut yer auger flighting (spirals) to 3" size. You'll probably haffta make a lathe type fixture to spin yer auger while you do yer torching.

Remember: there is NO REVERSE on PTO operated PHD's; its gravity down and power-UP, unless yer screwed into the ground with yer frontwheels flappin'. Then its armstrong time with BIG pipe wrench..... .....Dell

If you cut a danhauser auger down to 3 in. you would only have the center pipe left. I agree that if you want a 3 in hole use a rock drill.
