Painting OSB

I know someone has a simple solution for me before I start this project. I dont move like I did a few years ago. BUT my attached garage has 1/4" o.s.b walls on the inside. I would like to paint it white, but I dont intend to give it a dozen coats of paint. Maybe one coat of Kilz would work for primer? I dont know and am open for some suggestions.

All the oil-based stain blocker primers are brittle- they will crack and peel off from surfaces that move with moisture changes. Using them on just stain spots is OK, overall is the problem. I suggest priming with ordinary primer, then use the stain blocker on the problem spots, then finish coat. Flat paints mar easily and hold dust. Use eggshell for the finsh coat.

I put a skim coat of drywall mud on OSB, then a coat of PVA primer and one coat of interior latex. Looks indistinguishable from the drywall next to it.

Prime OSB with an oil based primer.
(Kilz is a stain blocker and best used for small areas.)
Use a heavy - 3/4", 1" - knapp to fill and seal.
Topcoat with acrylic

I don't remember which of the Kilz primers I was using, but it was one of the latex types. I didn't use all of it and stored the gal. can for a couple of months. When I opened it up, it had a 1/4" thick skin on top. I tried lifting it out and it broke up into the texture of cottage cheese with hard and soft pieces. Useless stuff. What garbage these new paints are. I've had latex and oil base paints stored for 20+ years. Remove the skin in one piece, stir it up, and use it.

I did that in 2001, still looks ok, bought white paint and primer at Walmart, 2-3 coats of primer, 2-3 topcoats, 30x30x11.

If you are painting with latex paint, you definitely need something to seal the sapwood from bleeding through. I painted a couple sheets of OSB with some leftover white Sherman Williams latex (two coats) and the sap bled through as yellow stains.

I had very few yellow stains. The Walmart latex still looks good after 4 years. Probably depends on the age of the OSB before installing.
