Make my own rubber grommet?

I've been trying to figure a way to make my own rubber grommet (to replace a very dry rotted original around a gas tank neck-I can't find a replacement). I've got a pattern, but I need a source of rubber, and an idea of what to use for a mold. I don't know where I'd look.

Graingers sells a product under the Devcon brand that I think is what you are looking for.

Make the mold from your pattern in plaster of paris and pour your new one with the devcon rubber substitute.

Like someone already said here Eastwood Company has small kits to make them. Also some local industrial supplies like Grainger have pourable rubber compounds that might work to make your own. Another source that supplies grommets for vehicles is Steele Rubber Products, Inc., Denver, NC, 1-800-544-8665.

Make a mold out of plaster and then pour it full of RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanizer) and you have made your own. Fred OH

You can buy rubber of varying thickness and composition from McMaster-Carr. Jim.

I think I saw a rubber casting kit in an Eastwood catalog or maybe Hemmings Motor News.
