I was watching American Hot Rod, Forget what car they were building, but they were making the exhaust system, they had some tool that would expand the exhaust pipe so you can fit another piece into it, they made to slits down each side of the pipe put this tool in the pipe hooked up thier impact gun to it and it expands the slited pipe section making it a female joint, anyone ever seen this type of tool, or know what its called?

Just take pipe to exaust they have a bender and expander that will do a better job , Pipe expander just good for getting rid of clamp marks so pipe goes back together.

the whole reason why I want this is so I dont HAVE to go to a exhaust shop, I brought my car to a shop to get a piece of my exhaust redone and he charged me 240.00 just for a hrs work and some pipe. I figure I have a good mig welder now, Im going to just do my own exhaust work.

We used to just call them tail pipe expanders. We had a couple different sizes.

Sears has a Craftsman Taiwan one that works. No country of origin is marked on it but its Taiwan cardboard, Tawain type printing ,and Tawain looking plastic.I assume then being not labeled its from Taiwan. That makes AJ Foyt a liar on the television commercial.

Never used one, but it's called an expander. I think you should be able to get one at Sear's or a parts store. I know that Lisle makes them, and think that NAPA Auto Parts used to sell them.

Got mine at NAPA. It is made to handle two different sizes, depending on how you assemble it. Works pretty well, within limits.

I have a couple different sizes that I use for joining thin wall tubing. I find that light hammering on the tube when the expander is tight will further expand the tube, so a few more turns can be taken on the screw. It's hard to hold the tube & turn the screw to make the expander force the metal out very much.
