Hydraulic jack question

I have a Sears 6ton jack that is evidently low on oil. Where do you fill these? There is a rubber plug in the side which I pulled out and then filled the hole with jack oil. (I had raised the piston all the way out before I did this) The piston would not go down afterwards so I pulled the plug and pushed it down, forcing out a bunch of oil. Now it won't raise at all. Whats the procedure to put the right amount of oil in?

Before you try to add oil,try this: Close the valve and jack the jack as high as it will go.Turn the jack on its other end and let it set for several seconds.Open the valve while the jack is still upside down and then force the ram back into the housing.That allows any trapped air to be returned to the reservois first.Repeat the procedure two or three times.I'll will almost bet that will fix it if there are no external leaks present.I have "fixed" dozens of jacks this way.Let me know if it fixes your jack.

I think you have the right hole just have the ram down in all the way when filling. You may now have air in it to bleed it try loosening the lowering screw and with it loose pump the handle up and down some and then tighten the screw while pumping and see if it doesn't start to raise.
