I bought a reel of high density polyetheline black plastic pipe the other day at a auction. It has the writing on it BURLEY`S SUB SOIL HEAT HDPE written on it. It happens to be 3/4 in pipe. I intend to bury it below the frost line and run water to a house trailer through it. Does anyone know exactly what this pipe was intended for and if it is or is not suited for my use. Thank you.

The (HDPE) High Density Polyethylene. This pipe can be used to transfer water. If you bought it from auction it might not have passed some of the testing involved. Burst, Elongation, etc. Lots of large cities use this pipe in larger OD to transfer water. It is used alone and sometime inserted inside other pipes (concrete)that has failed much cheaper than replacing old plumbing.I hope this helpl.

Hi GW,

I think NSF rated drinking water pipe has to be polypropaylene, not polyethylene. You might want to check or someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

It's made to carry hot water (upto 180º,160º?) under ground.

Would that PE pipe not be for those outdoor wood fired boiler setups? Where all the pipe does is carry hot antifreeze?
