This item has come up more than once here in postings. I bought a Stainless toolbox from cosco...same one as Sams club sells for $650. Thought it was the the cats p.j's. Well a god deal came up on a snap on. So i bought it. Ive has a chance to compare them side by side, and the stainless cheepo box is better. Same guage steel, but the fit and finish is a little better on the stainless unit. Im a little concerned that if the slides ever fail on the ss box, I may have trouble replacing them. But I thought id share my "test" with you all. I put the snapon on ebay, as long as I get what I paid, Ill be happy to see it go. And no, I sont work for Sams!

Just curious- did that "god"(good) deal on the Snap-On box come from a Snap-On dealer or did you find it from a private seller? If private seller- there isn't any basis for comparison. Some people desparate for money will sell a ten thousand dollar diamond ring for fifty bucks(although I haven't run accross them yet!).

I've had my eye on that tool box too. It appears to be very well built, so I'm wondering if they kept the price down by using a low-grade-not-so- stainless. I did buy one of the non-stainless boxes from them, made by Homak. I bought it for a mechanic friend in lieu of cash, and it's held up very well. Sam's has a good return policy too.

i'm glad your happy because in the end that's all that counts. i have no experiance with the sam's tool boxes so i can not say but i will continue to buy the snap on service. i am no longer a mechanic by trade but the same snap on dealer that i had when i did turn wrenches still comes to my house once a week to take care of anything i might need, wether new purchase or warrenty or just to shoot the bull.
