Just wondering why there would be a pressure differents at the well pit and the house witch is about 70 yards apart.They have new pressure guages on them.The guage in the well pit is higher then the house guage.Well is set for 30 50 that about where the well does it thing but at the house it 29 to 40 for kick on and off.Could the water pipes in the house be pluged so there is a lot of galivazine ones in the house.At the well they are plastice and to the house they are plastice too,just in the house they turn galiv.About how long should the pump run when it called to run,and how long should it stay off.Do not want to ruin the pump by running to much or to short of time thanks

If I'm reading your question right you have a pressure switch at the well and in the house? One or two pressure tanks?

A submersible pump should run for a minimum of one minute per start, if it is 1.5 horsepower or below. If it is more than 1.5 horsepower, it should run for at least two minutes. This is to provide sufficient cooling to overcome the high starting current. Franklin Electric has a good website that tells you all you ever wanted to know about submersible pump motors.

The usual way to accomplish a minimum run time is through the use of a suitable size captive air tank and a sufficient difference between cut-in and cut-out pressure. There are other ways, such as stop-cycle valves or VFD drives.

Do the 2 pressure gauges equalize if water isn't used for a while.If so it is merely a pressure drop from friction loss of the water passing through the piping.If my memory serves me well there is a 5 psi friction loss in a 50 foot length of a 1 1/2" fire hose at 120PSI.

It is not unusual to find a 25% error in new gauges sold in hardwares and home centers. Just swap the pressure gauges for a check. Factor in any elevation differences per Bob's post.

You need to know the drawdown of your well. It will be on the well digger's report. For run times and pressure tank sizes see the link. There are several other sites that have good info, do a search.

Is there a difference in elevation? Water pressure at the well (even with the pump "OFF") will increase by .433 PSI for every foot of elevation increase from the well to the pressure gauge at the house.

There is a natural drop in press caused by the flow of the water. When the flow is stopped the pressures at the two points should be close to the same at 70 yds. The pump ON duration would depend on the amount of system drain and the amount of pump output. If you turned the flow off and the pump was still running you would have to figure the pump output, times the length of time before cut out to determine how much was being made up. If you are experiencing intermitent cycling of the pump you might want to put a captive air tank in the system near the house. The larger the better. To protect your pump you might want to install a pump protector that will shut it off for up to an hour if it pulls the well down and loses suction. Do a search on FlowTech they are one of several types.
