So I remembered why I don't like to borrow peoples stuff. My friend has a saw mill that he was having trouble with. I told him to bring it over and I'd fix it up and use it to cut some wood. Don't you know it blows up on the second log. It's a twin cylinder 16HP Briggs. I'm thinking to get a refurbished engine and stick it on. A new one is $1000 from Northern. Anyone know where I could get a rebuilt engine? If I could get one for $500 I'd just get it and give it back to him. Lesson re-learned. Thanks.

I commend you for wanting to make good by replacing the engine.... But if it was mine, I would not let you bear the full cost of an engine... I wish I knew more people that had the principles you have. Most things I loan out come back broken, if they come back at all.....

I saw the topic, "Blown Briggs and Stratton" and thought you'd put a supercharger on your lawn mower. Now THAT I'd like to see! ;)

Same situation happened to me a few years ago. Was shopping around for engines, and a friend who ran a small engine dealership in his hardware store told me about a 'short block' program. Worked out well. The engine came with just basic case, crank, rods, piston, and valves. Everything else came off the old engine, just like a car. Anyhow, it worked out slick and the price was great. HTH Ben
