Air powered caulking guns - any good?

Staining my 2-story cedar sided house this year and the builder used no caulk at any of the joints. Now at 15 years old, the siding has shrunk a bit to have end gaps that should be sealed up. I wonder if an air powered caulking gun would be good to have considering the volume that I will be dealing with. I have a small compressor so I"m part way there already.

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

My experience, you"re better off with a simple old manual one. Air powered ones are not very precise, and difficult to turn off "on a dime."

I would just use one of those-fashioned ones, manual. Much more simple, no down time, no hose or chargers and always handy. You can control how much to put on a place and also cheaper. Alvin

I have both air and battery. I use the air one more, but you have to learn to use it. It's not hard to shoot out a tube real fast, until you get the hang of it. My battery powered one used more batteries than I could carry. Both are good things to have around, though.

If you can find one, Wagner produced a cordless caulking gun which works very well. I think they are out of stock now, though. I see Amazon.com dropped a review I had written on it.

Milwakee sells an expensive one. The Wagners that my friends and I bought cost only $50. CDN at Princess Auto.

I have used mine a lot over the last three years, with duties ranging from putting thick butyl into seams on the bottom of a carvel planked 30 footer, to bedding thermal panes in new sashes.
It's especially useful for material too thick to squeeze comfortably or for applications where just a little is what you need. When you release the volume-adjustable trigger, the motor automatically backs up a bit to prevent drips.

I looked at one of those, didnt like dragging the hose all over. For a few bucks more, a cordless works better. Get one with 2 batteries.

They make cordless gun nowadays. You may want to check them out. I know Home Depot sells the Ryobi model.
