Hey y'all,
Anyone know of a place to get high quality ratchet binders? Built good and heavy for binding dozers, trackhoes, and the like.

I have had very good service from the import ratchet binders that Harbor Freight sells. They are rated to 9200 lbs and I haven't had one break yet. HF is having a sale until 4/25/2005 and the binders are $17.95 and if your order is over $50, shipping is free. That's the cheapest that I have seen. Binders made in the USA are about $20 more. We own 16 of the imports and half of them secure a backhoe on a daily basis with no problems.

Old ones at flea markets or tractor swap meets are usually USA made. $6-$10 each. Buy only straight handles.

Find a truckers supply house they usually stock binders chains and every thing a big truck needs ,most large citys have one or ask a trailer dealer that sells flat beds they would have good binders, but since this is a safety item don't haggle over price you get what you pay for.

I look for those any time I am in a place that might sell them. To date I have not found any that were not made in taiwan or someplace like that, but I will have to admit that I haven't ever had trouble with any of the imported ones that I own, and I usually use a 4 foot cheater to get them tight. Doesn't matter where you look for them, they all come from the same place, and they are all way overpriced, but what isn't? Try your local farm store, Northern tools if you have a store handy, otherwise the freight will kill you. A truck stop will normally be about 150% higher for the same thing.

You might get lucky & still find some of the older stock ones at Tractor Supply. They had good quality ones (US made). But the last few times I was there, all they had were the cheap Chinese binders that were painted orange. Other than that, a truckstop should have them, although they may be expensive there..
