Hello,
hope i'm in the right place for this problem.
I have a 1981 (or there about) Case 380 2wd tractor with heavy duty frontloader. I think this tractor was called an industrial or landscape series due to the heavy build. Anywho, one day backing up to lift a round bale, I tried to move forward, releasing the clutch, and nothing happened except the engine reving. I thought i was slipping in soft ground or something. After going in and out of gear, trying to back and start forward, I finally got some forward, slow movement. I was able to move the round bale (about 600 yards with a few stops), but noticed increasing slowness to the gear engagement. I figured the clutch was going out. Made it back to the house barely. Engine runs fine, but no go in any gear, high or low range, forward or backwards. It will s l o w l y start to roll (at least it did for a while) but i don't think it even does that any more. I have looked behind / under the clutch pedal for an adjustment cable or linkage..... .no luck.
Sound like a clutch or tranny ? big job or not so big ?
thanks for any help
tim

Hi Tim.
It sounds like you have a 380 Loader, landscaper tractor. They have a clutch adjustment on the left side right under the clutch pedal. It is very hard to get at with the loader being in the way. It probably is not the problem though. They have 2 seperate cluches and presure plates. One or both is probably shot. It involves removing the loader(not an easy task) splitting the tractor and repair. I have repaired on twice since workers are hard on machines they do not own or have to fix themselfs and did not enjoy the job.
Do you have a repair manual? If you do not I do and could post some pages if need be.

thanks Butcher,

same info my neighbor told me, exactly. he's a dozer and heavy machine operator.

i have the repair manual, but this sounds like a big job. i don't have the experience, and though i'm sure i could do it (i'm a dentist of 30 years), i'm afraid it would take a while, and i would end up not enjoying most of it.

thanks for the help.

BTW, what do you think of Joh Deere for about a 50-60 hp 4wd tractor with heavy duty loader ?
