hey guys just doing some math here on my Brunner air compressor, and doing the math here, I have a 16 inch pully on the pump, 3.5 inch pully on the motor and motor turns at 1725 RPM this would give me, 375 rpm.... Kinda slow no? what do you think I can bring it up to max.

I wonder if someone along the line didn't swap out an original 3,400 RPM motor for the one here.

Your pump is turning as fast as it will go with that 1.5hp motor. You could probably run a 3hp motor off of 220V, and gear it up accordingly, but with the stock motor, the best you could reasonably do is maybe spin it a bit faster and cutout at a lower pressure. I wouldn't be surprised if the motor is already overloaded cutting out at 175. Sounds like someone has monkeyed around with the pressure settings. Shouldn't be too hard to find someone with a clamp-on amp meter. I have one, but I doubt you are anywhere near Ottawa.

377.34 rpms and a bit at full rated motor load. What is the max rated rpms of the compressor? What is the desired output pressure? What HP is the motor? What size, voltage and phase is the the electrical service to the compressor motor? Is the compressor equiped with an unloader? What is the cfm rating of the compressor, at what rpms and at what pressure? A standard multi meter measures a max of 10.0 Amps AC or DC. Some max out at as low as 2.0 Amps. Motor inrush current would open the meters over current protection even if running current was 8.0 Amps. You need a decent "AC Clamp On Ammmeter".

Max RPM of the compressor is unknown, as I have no way of knowing, I have very little info on the pump I have been told its a brunner, its a BIG pump, 2 stage, 2 piston. HP of the motor is 1.5 HP 220V single phase. it does have a unloader. cfm rating is unknown. pumps to 175 psi with little effort, just takes along time at that RPM to make it there.

Looking through a cataloge at similar splash lubricated compressors should find an approximent rpm. I wouldn't be suprised it could take all a real/true 5HP motor could give. Good quality paint job on there .No dents or dings either. That motor on there dates from the 1940's to 1960's.

how does one test for amp draw on a electric motor?
I have a good ohm meter just not sure how to test for amps.
