I just sold my Astro brand mig welder. It was a 100v 130amp. It worked very well, but the feed cable was a little buggered up. The same unit can sometimes be found for $149 new, So I figured Id ebay it for $100 and just get a new one. Well, to my amazment It sold for over $200. So here is my situation.

I just replaced my wonderfull old HUGE craftsman 220v ac arc with a ac/dc arc. So my mig needs are light, the 110v 130amp was fine.

I need to replace my mig now, I know nothing about tig, but it seems to be getting more popular. I dont mind spending up to $400 used. I can get a nice big name 110v mig for that. But can someone inlighten me on the world of tigs.

Also, if anyone needs a superb craftsman 1960's AC stick welder, Im asking $100. It is in great shape and welds great, I only upgraded b/c I got an ac/dc unit for $50

Thanks
Joe

If you can find a used TIG for less than $1000 dollars, let me know-- I've been looking for years. Seriously, these are difficult to find, best you can hope for is to find one coming out of a plant (factory) somewhere, and that nobody in middle management has dibbs on it. Good luck. Consumables for these machines can add up to quite an expense if you don't watch it.

Maybe you've been looking in the wrong places. I put mine together last year for around $600. The welder is as old as the hills (1969 Miller 330A/BP) and I accumulated parts one or two at a time, mostly off eBay, Now I have an AC/DC hi-freq, water cooled rig with remore control that will put out almost 500 amps on TIG. The only downside is that the whole thing is over 1000 pounds so it does not move much.
Keep looking!
