JD MODEL A CARBURETOR SETTINGS

Adjustments from the JD manual. Turn the srews in untill they seat LIGHTLY. Back the load screw out 1.25 turns, the idle 1 turn. Load can only really be fine tuned under load, idle should be fine tuned at idle when warm.

As to your problems sounds like there may be something else going on. First thing to check is the carb getting good fuel flow. open the drain on the bottom of the bowl and turn on the fuel. After the bowl drains out you should get a healthy stream from the tank. If it slows to a trickle start chasing your way back to the tank. IE take the fuel line off at the carb and turn on fuel if good flow here something in the carb is plugged if not keep chasing back untill you get good flow.

If you are getting good flow to the carb you are probably due for a rebuild. Make sure you get ALL the little passages clean.

Another possibility could still be the ignition. I have a 50 A that gave me fits a couple of years ago. Would idle bueatifil but try to put a load on and woud miss and back fire. Wound up rebuilding the distributer and all was good.
